The latest edition to the sumptuous La Réserve Collection of hotels, La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich, recently opened its doors after an extensive renovation. Along with all the usual upmarket pleasantries, the hotel now also boasts a gorgeously redesigned interior courtesy of Philippe Starck.

In January this year, the esteemed La Réserve collection expanded its repertoire with the opening of their latest exquisite property in Switzerland, the 5-star La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich. With astounding views, superlative facilities, top-class service and interiors conceptualised by Philippe Starck, this hotel is a true head-turner.

A regal French Empire-style building that stands tall overlooking Zurich’s waterfront, the hotel’s fabled façade holds the glamour-steeped stories of its century-old history within. First opened in 1909, the historic building has kept many of its original features that reflect its sophistication and grandeur right from the start. A luxe leisure spot from early in the 20th century, expressed through elaborate balconies adorned with blue and white striped blinds paired with antique sculptures of lion heads and other majestic creatures.

Celebrated designer Philippe Starck took the remodeling of the building under his wing and embarked on an ambitious renovation project to transform the space with his artistic and rebellious touch. After a several-month-long project, the hotel re-emerged as a contemporary jewel on lake Zurich’s shore, boasting 40 beautiful rooms, three panoramic restaurants and two elegant bars.  The hotel has had every facet redesigned to present guests with the most refined and timeless of experiences that stays true to La Réserve’s values of excellence, authenticity and simplicity.

To bring the building’s ageless allure back to life, layers of plaster, tapestries and wallpaper were removed and the bricks of the walls, marble of the basements, solid-wood floors and concrete details were exhumed, restored to their original beauty and combined with contemporary, natural materials to create a venue with eternal modernity.

As Philippe Starck describes the stately spot: “La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich is like dancing rock and roll with the Queen of England. Everything is traditional, yet resolutely unconventional. It’s a timeless cocktail composed of classicism, modernity, intelligence and creativity.”

Some of Starck’s subtle artistic surprises include astute lighting in beautifully blown glass, sculptural brushed stainless-steel door handles, delicate marble layering, flattering mirrors, dainty glass partitioning, carefully curated artworks and eloquent furnishings.

The hotel’s rooms are divided into eight categories that range in size from 22 to 79 square metres. The rooms take up the upper levels of the building, with striking views across the lake. The dining options include the Eden Kitchen and Bar, La Muna and La Muna Terrace.

The third addition to the trifecta of Michel Reybier’s exclusive collection of boutique luxury hotels, La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich, Switzerland is the newest sister property to La Réserve’s hotels in Paris, Ramatuelle and Geneva. Nurturing elegance and re-imagining luxury at every corner, the La Réserve collection has become a globally-loved brand. From the intimate, decadently decorated Champs Elysées palace hotel in Paris, to the glitzy Saint-Tropez retreat with its elite beach club on the famed Plage de Pampelonne and the original Geneva gem that showcases the best in refined simplicity, this Swiss property is in good company.
