Marriott International has announced plans to bring its Ritz-Carlton brand to the Balkan country of Montenegro.

The 120-room Ritz-Carlton Montenegro is expected to open in 2024, while the first phase of the Ritz-Carlton Residences Montenegro is scheduled to launch in 2023, with completion expected in 2028.

The development will be situated on the western tip of the Lustica Peninsula, around 30 minutes from Tivat International airport, and around two hours from Dubrovnik International.

Tivat airport currently has direct seasonal flights with Easyjet from Gatwick and Manchester, and seasonal services with Montenegro Airlines from Gatwick.

Facilities will include a private jetty for sea arrivals, three restaurants, a beach bar, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a salt water lido, spa and fitness room, and “expansive outdoor events spaces”.

The hotel and residences will form part of a mixed used development including a yacht club, villas, gardens and a beach cove.

Commenting on the news Carlton Ervin, chief development officer – Europe, Marriott International, said:

“With its striking views of the Adriatic coast, Montenegro has quickly become a favourite Mediterranean destination for global travellers.

“The signing of The Ritz-Carlton, Montenegro highlights the demand for our luxury brands in this exciting region. Combining the country’s serene, natural beauty together with the brand’s legendary service makes Montenegro the perfect destination for The Ritz-Carlton guest.”

Marriott currently operates just one hotel in the country – the Four Points by Sheraton Kolasin in northern Montenegro. In 2016 Hilton opened its first property in the country, the Hilton Podgorica Crna Gora in Montenegro’s capital.
