Nestled in the rich foliage of one of the world’s most exceptional natural habitats, guests can explore where few have been before. One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is the ultimate ultra-luxury resort located in Rwanda’s northwest Kinigi region, just a five-minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. The park is home to the highest number of mountain gorillas globally, along with five dormant volcanoes.

As part of the affluent brand’s strategic expansion, One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is the second One&Only resort in Rwanda, following the opening of One&Only Nyungwe House in 2018. Both properties celebrate the best of what Rwanda has to offer, setting new standards for excellence in the country. The brand also promises to continue its efforts in promoting luxury eco-travel, taking steps to conserve Rwanda’s natural environment.

The resort boasts an intimate collection of 21 jungle-chic lodges and suites seamlessly blended within the verdant surrounds. These beautifully designed private sanctuaries include 10 Forest King Lodges, four Two-Bedroom Forest Lodges, five Virunga Suites, one Ingagi and one Silverback Suite, each of which has been carefully designed to frame its surrounding nature, strategically positioned on stilts amidst the Eucalyptus trees. Private decks and in-room fireplaces invite the outside in, allowing guests to freely experience the endless landscape, providing a truly unforgettable African experience.

In the suites, spacious living and dining areas are included, along with outdoor bathtubs perched high in the trees, offering the ultimate privacy to be at one with nature. Each lodge boasts a modern African feel, reflecting the hues of the surrounding vistas and showcases Earth in all its glory with natural tones interspersed with local volcanic rock and touches of black and white Rwandan imigongo patterns.

The main restaurant, Nest offers both indoor and outdoor dining, as well as has a private dining area for up to 22 guests. Executive Chef Bryan English and his team focus on local and organic ingredients, making use of the abundant produce from local farmers as well as his own Chef’s Garden. Similar to One&Only Nyungwe House, the culinary team develop new menus daily with Rwandan and African influences and tailor dishes to guests’ preferences and dietary needs. Private outdoor dining experiences, barbeques and picnics are also available for guests, along with the Pool Bar which remains open throughout the day.

The One&Only Spa has partnered with South African brand Terres d’Afrique to create a variety of holistic treatments using plant-based African ingredients. There are two treatment suites available in a private building and guests can opt to have treatments tailored to address specific areas of the body. Three signature treatments, only found at One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, honor the resort’s location, taking inspiration from the local community and surroundings. Guests also have access to Club One, a serene space with a range of facilities including a relaxation room, an open-air heated pool and plunge pool. The Fitness Centre boasts a steam room and sauna, along with the Pool Bar that serves healthy dining options such as fruit juices, which then evolving into exciting evening cocktails.

The hotel’s Experience Team assist in organizing both activities at both the National Park and the on-site Experience Centre. Personalized itineraries are readily made by the team according to guests’ preferences and include activities such as Coffee Tasting with the resort’s barista and local coffee experts;  yoga on one of the outdoor decks; photography lessons at the Studio; learning the art of basket weaving and visiting the local communities to find out mo re about Rwandan culture and history.

The resort is located just two and a half hours by car from Kigali International Airport, or just a short 25-minute helicopter flight that land’s on the property’s private helipad. Either way, guests can appreciate the scenic commute through rolling countryside hills and fascinating towns.
