As cities around the world navigate reopening plans for residents and tourists alike, Geneva, Switzerland has begun its slow return to a new normal by reopening shops, restaurants, markets, museums and hotels. Most notably, the Jet d’Eau—the water fountain in Lake Geneva—will resume service on June 11 at 3:30 CET after being out of service since March 20 due to the pandemic.
While the destination begins to welcome visitors back, businesses and institutions within its tourist industry are taking precautionary measures to ensure social distancing rules and adhere to stringent health and safety guidelines.
Throughout Geneva, businesses in the culture, hospitality and culinary industries that comply with special safety protocols will prominently display a “Clean & Safe” logo. This program, which was initiated by Geneva Tourism and developed by Switzerland Tourism, is designed to give visitors peace of mind while ensuring their safety within the destination. The destination expects 100 percent of its hotels to adhere to these protocols.
Hotels within Geneva have also taken additional special steps to ensure they are meeting high standards of health and safety for visitors. For instance, Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva has introduced a “Lead with Care” program, which focuses on providing care, confidence and comfort within the new environment and beyond for guests. The hotel has also implemented its own app, the #FSApp, which allows guests to have a contactless experience and to access staff from their personal device. The Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva has also introduced comprehensive cleanliness measures including a reorganization of the property’s restaurants to meet social distancing standards, new cleaning protocols for all guest rooms and increased safety measures for the hotel’s employees.
The destination also launched #GenevaMoments, a social media campaign encouraging visitors to share past travels to the city during lockdown. Geneva Tourism’s highlighted many of these #GenevaMoments stories on its Instagram channel (@genevatourism). Once attractions are fully reopened, the tourism board will share behind-the-scenes footage and video interviews of staff at Geneva’s museums, chefs, maintenance staff at the Jet d’Eau and more.
