Two of Africa’s finest design lodges are partnering up to offer a once-in-a-lifetime African wilderness experience. From sleeping in a baobab treehouse to helicopter flights over Victoria falls and traversing across the Delta in a glass-bottomed mokoro, this unforgettable journey showcases southern Africa’s untouched beauty in all its glory.

The brand new Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana (set to open in June 2020) has partnered with the exclusive Matetsi Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to bring an unprecedented African wilderness experience to travelers. Unifying two of Africa’s greatest design lodges, the new Delta x Falls package will fuse design and wilderness like never before, offering guests unrivaled access to two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Okavango Delta in Botswana and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe – while staying in Africa’s most exemplary safari lodges.

Xigera Safari Lodge

The seven-night package starts with a three-night stay at Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana’s pristine wilderness that is the Okavango Delta. Xigera is set to be a legacy project of the Tollman family – the renowned South African hoteliers behind the Red Carnation Hotel Collection – with the lodge receiving the largest investment into a property of its size that Africa has seen yet. The property will be truly unique, showcasing the world’s most extensive collection of southern African art and design in collaboration with Cape Town’s acclaimed Southern Guild Gallery. Guests will reside in a ‘living gallery’ of bespoke works commissioned exclusively for the property by Africa’s most up-and-coming young artists including Adam Birch, Madoda Fani, Porky Hefer, Otto du Plessis and Stanislaw Trzebinski, among others.

The design-forward lodge was conceptualized by Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie and Anton de Kock, who came together for the first time in a ground-breaking design partnership with Southern Guild. Delicate, quietly surprising accents fill the venue with warmth; from human-sized woven nests resting on decks for guests to nestle in, to a totemic firepit sculpture by blacksmith artist Conrad Hicks, offering a contemporary take on the traditional boma setting, every corner of the property will delight with its carefully procured art and design.

The lodge will sleep a maximum of 24 guests hosted by 105 staff, ensuring a completely personalised experience with an anytime, anywhere approach to safari. Each of the lodge’s suites floats above the Delta’s waterways in the Moremi Game Reserve, a design which purposefully mirrors the Pel’s Fishing Owl in flight. Exclusive to the Delta x Falls package, guests will be treated to a life-changing sleep-out in a three-story steel baobab tree located 1km from the camp, enabling guests to immerse themselves fully in nature. Morning, afternoon and evening game drives will be at guests’ leisure, while they can also explore the Delta’s waterways by traditional canoe, glass-bottom mokoro and motorboat – complete with ‘feet-in-the-water’ sundowners. Guests purchasing this package will also be treated to a $100 credit per person for the soul-stirring spa.

Matetsi Victoria Falls

From Xigera Safari Lodge, guests will enjoy a complimentary Mack Air flight from Moremi Game Reserve to Kasane where they will be received by their Matetsi Victoria Falls tour and transfer guide and assisted through to Zimbabwe and onwards to Matetsi Private Game Reserve – a short distance from the border.

Guests will spend four nights at the sumptuous Matetsi Victoria Falls, located on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River within its own 55,000-hectare private wildlife conservation area. The lodge’s prime location and premier service allows guests to effortlessly discover the region with warm Zimbabwean hospitality, outstanding cuisine, unique river experiences, and incredible wildlife encounters. The expert team at the family-owned Matetsi Victoria Falls is all about creating extraordinary experiences for their guests, from world-class chefs to personal butlers and everything in between.

Lauded for its exquisite, modern interiors that draw attention to local Zimbabwean design talent, Matetsi Victoria Falls has won a number of design awards and travel accolades for its immersive and contemporary African design. Inspired by life on the Zambezi River, Architectural Designer Kerry van Leenhoff included various motifs reflecting the surrounds in the venue’s semblance, such as hanging dug-out canoes, fish-trap inspired light-features, hand-woven screens and clay-pot down-lighters. Each of the property’s stylish living spaces take inspiration from local culture and traditions of Zimbabwean village life, while artworks by young, emerging Zimbabwean artist, Helen Teede, bring to life a real sense of place. Mesmerizing murals on the walls hint at the ebb and flow of the river and the inimitable power of nature.

Guests purchasing the Delta x Falls package will also be treated to a $100 voucher per person at Matetsi Victoria Falls’ spa, as well as an incredible helicopter excursion from the Matetsi Private Game Reserve, following the Zambezi River to the Victoria Falls. This awe-inspiring flight gives guests the opportunity to see wildlife from the air, to marvel at the Batoka Gorge and experience the renowned “Flight of the Angels.” On landing, guests will be met by their personal tour guide for a guided walking tour of the Falls followed by High Tea at the iconic Victoria Falls Hotel. Back at the Matetsi Private Game Reserve property, guests will be invited to revel in activities such as game drives, boat cruises, canoeing and walking safaris.
