The Victoria-Jungfrau (Leading Hotels of the World), a superb 19th century residence, is one of the first hotels that opened its doors on the seaside resort of Interlaken, and offers a stunning view on the mountain peaks, rising to 4,158 meters. From the city, the heights of the Bernese Alps are easily reached through the funicular. But to the joys of mountain hiking, some will certainly prefer the charms and quietude of the two buildings (originally two distinct hotels, the Victoria and the Jungfrau) which were connected by an atrium in 1991. The subsequent rehabilitation restored the original aspect of the venue and of its steel and glass Belle Époque architecture, embellished by gilded ornaments and baroque elements in a thoroughly luxurious fusion. The Victoria-Jungfrau bestows absolute luxury, reflected in its sumptuous rooms, its majestic decoration, its holistic spa and refined restaurants.

The term that would best describe each of the hotel’s services would be ‘spectacular’, starting with the stunning view offered by the large bay windows in each room, the panorama on Harder Kulm (highest peak) or on the verdurous Höhematte park. Despite their imposing volumes, the rooms offer an accessible welcoming comfort, with traditional furniture, warm fabrics, and a classic style, clean and modern in a few suites, that perfectly blends with the spirit of the place. However, what makes a stay unforgettable are small attentions: a readily accessible coffee machine, a fresh fruit plate and an ultra-professional and entirely available service.

Naturally, the high point of this this complex is synonymous with care and well-being: the 59,000ft2 Nescens spa. The concept emerged from the work of Pr. Jacques Proust, famous for being at the cutting edge of technology and research on anti-ageing techniques. All multidisciplinary poles of treatment are dispensed by professionals who define programs adapted to each patient. Bordered by marble pillars under a marble vaulted ceiling, the indoor swimming pool, a must-see venue in the hotel, offers once again a spectacular view. It is flanked by an outdoor hot tub, steam baths, saunas and a relaxation room. A health centre and a fitness room are also available.

To complete the offer, the hotel also features a refined cuisine focused on well-being. The orangery-styled restaurant, La Terrasse, surrounded by palm trees and decorated with bronze candelabra and marble columns, serves breakfasts composed of local products. In the evening, the venue becomes a gourmet restaurant managed by chef Stefan Beer, author of a creative cuisine not only inspired from the surrounding nature, but also consistent with the benefits offered by the premises. Exceptional product quality, freshness and balance are the watchwords here. Note that healthy snacks (detox soups and smoothies) are also available at the Spa Bistro during the day.

The Sapori restaurant, very Italian in its decoration, with stuccos and murals, displays a more traditional menu: pasta, wood-fired pizza or simpler dishes, like grilled fish and meat.

The Victoria-Jungfrau, while keeping the character of a large Belle Époque hotel, managed to enter the 21st century with refined elegance. The sumptuous reception halls, including the Versailles-inspired banquet hall and its wall paintings, stuccos and gilts, are perfect examples of the attention devoted to every detail, from the beautiful flower displays to the marble fountains. The Victoria-Jungfrau thus perpetuates the great tradition of luxurious seaside resorts, at the heart of a mountain landscape equally authentic.
