Lily of the Valley: bridging the gap between past and present, nature and architecture

5-star hotel Lily of the Valley, Leading Hotels of the World, is a hill-perched wellbeing bubble overlooking the preserved beach of Gigaro. Surrounded by pines and wild flowers, the venue offers a plunging view over the Mediterranean. Located only 30 km away from bubbling Saint-Tropez, one can hardly resist the temptation to choose this serenity haven for a 100% body and spirit wellness stay. The city of La Croix-Valmer and its superb market are only 10 minutes away by car.

Until 2016, the place sheltered a small traditional hotel. It was discovered by the Weill family during a trip, who immediately dreamed of embellishing this exceptional venue with artefacts worthy of the beauty of its environment. With the aim of revealing all the magic of this small paradise, Alain Weill entrusted Philippe Starck and his capable hands with the project, that opened its doors in June 2019.

“I have dreamed all my life to be here. Between unconscious antiquity and extreme modernity, in what undoubtedly is the best place in the world to live in”, said the brilliant architect.

Harmony with nature is the prevalent axis of this outstanding place, leading to a completely unique vision of architecture and decoration, somewhere between rustic naturalness and very modern delicacy. The architect drew his inspiration from the ancient Middle-Eastern hanging gardens, the architecture of Provençal abbeys or the design of Californian villas.

Philippe Stark imagined a low-ceiling hotel, developed on two levels, where glass, wood, stone, cement and marble would co-exist. Building materials bloom at the rhythm of the Earth’s natural colours: brown, beige and green tones, all blending in the landscape. Gathered around the 25-m swimming pool, the “Wellness Village” is hosted on the bottom floor, while a sea-facing flight of stairs built in the hill leads to the upper floor.

A spirit-environment communion for a harmony of the senses

The spectacular and imposing 38 rooms and six suites – respectively 30 and 80 m² – all have a bathroom equipped with twin vanity sinks in black and white marble, as well as a beautiful terrace facing the sea with a daybed and a dining table.

Extending over 2,000 m², the “Wellness Village” features two heated pools, two saunas, an ice fountain, a snow shower, a vast hammam and seven treatment rooms, with exclusively-elaborated skin care and massages by Gilles Szafirko, awarded Meilleur Masseur de France in 2017. All treatments are performed using Biologique Research products and can be supplemented by sports activities on the spot, in the Technogym©-equipped fitness room, with courses including AquaFitness, AquaPilates, AquaBoxe, FloatFitness, Postural Ball and Stretching, among others, fabulous hiking trails around the domain, as well as meditation activities.

Specialised in healthy cuisine, the Village restaurant delights its guests with a menu concocted by chef Vincent Maillard, formerly chef in Alain Ducasse’s brigade for restaurant Louis XV. The Vista, located on the superb terrace dominating the sea, offers a Provençal-flavoured menu throughout the day.

Thanks to the generosity of the hotel management and its friendly personnel, Lily of the Valley is an all-year round second home, a unique and timeless return to the roots, cradled by a wild nature and the Mediterranean lights.
