Find strength in the wisdom of the ancients and set aside time for restorative pampering on one’s own, with a significant other or the whole family
For those missing precious spa time to unwind and decompress, The Spa at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens awaits with an array of newly-launched Hippocrates-inspired restorative treatments.
Paying tribute to the father of modern medicine’s holistic philosophy surrounding health and wellbeing, the resort’s secluded seaside location at the tip of a pine-studded peninsula makes it the ideal retreat to reinvigorate the senses.
This season, The Spa debuts a selection of experiences designed to restore the equilibrium between mind, body and soul, many of them featuring innately Greek elements.
Find Strength in the Wisdom of the Ancients
Spa Director Stella Arvanitakou, who joined the Athens team last year, is excited about the breadth of treatments and therapies now available at The Spa, a serene haven that looks out onto the glittering Saronic Gulf.
“For many of us, it’s a time when we feel a vital need to invest in ourselves by putting our feet up and letting someone else take care of our wellbeing needs for a little while,” she says.
New wellness experiences incorporate essential oils created with locally-sourced herbs and plants, such as oregano, mint and eucalyptus, each of which provide specific benefits, such as enhancing clarity and reducing anxiety.
“For instance, we create a gentle aromatic body scrub on the spot for our guests with crushed lavender flowers and virgin olive oil,” Stella notes.
Wellness by the Water
New experiences this year include signature massage treatment Armonia, which involves the application of gentle and firm techniques that release tension and boost vitality.
Book one of the private waterside cabana suites for the Energia Ritual, which features a hot stones massage that eases internal tension and improves flexibility.
Several therapies celebrate the water element, mirroring the uniqueness of The Spa’s location on the Athens Riviera, just a half-hour drive south of the city centre yet a world away from the urban hustle and bustle.
“Guests feel a very special energy, both tranquil and vibrant, that emanates from the surroundings,” Stella explains.
Hydrotherapy fosters a sense of deep relaxation, while boosting the immune system, relieving stress and reducing muscle tension.
Take to the waters at The Fountain House, the indoor adults-only hydrotherapy zone where ancient Greek tradition connects with modern-day spa culture. Move between the aroma steam grotto, hammam, vitality pool and chill showers then lay back in the sea-facing relaxation lounge.
Dedicate Time to Oneself, One's Partner or the Whole Family
Whether in need of time alone, with a significant other or with family, The Spa can cater to each guest's particular needs.
Indulge in the newly-introduced Katharo Detox Facial, a powerful detoxifying treatment that harnesses the vital force of volcanic glass combined with skin-clearing activated carbon and lymphatic drainage.
Perennially popular with couples is the Epaphi Ritual. Take the time to reconnect in the intimate setting of The Spa's Signature Suite and soak away cares with an aromatherapy bath, followed by a full body massage.
Family-focused experiences are new to The Spa this year, welcoming children aged eight and up. Book the Sinantisi Ritual, which allows guests to gather with loved ones in the Master Spa Suite to enjoy its private facilities, as well as a full body massage that promotes healing and bonding.
Meanwhile, men can choose from treatments conceived just for them, such as the Evexia Body Massage that employs a variety of techniques aimed at restoring strength and energy.
Stella and her team are on hand to personalise a treatment plan suited to skin type, state of fitness and mood.
While at The Spa, make sure to pop in to the on-site Boutique to peruse exclusive creations, limited edition apparel, accessories, home décor items and beauty products by high-end Greek brands.
