Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa, a romantic getaway in the frangipani shadows

Maradiva (Leading Hotels of the World) is the only hotel in Mauritius composed solely of villas distributed over a 27-acre luxurious tropical garden. Sheltered from view, the guests of Maradiva enjoy discretion, unparalleled romantic charm, as well as renowned gourmet and wellness offers.

Maradiva’s architectural design, by architect Maurice Giraud, reflects the island’s mixed legacy and draws its inspiration from its colonial past. The idea of a successful –  though never tawdry – luxury unfolds under its cathedral ceilings, yellow ochre walls and Madagascar rosewood floors. These wonderful constructions certainly climax in the ayurveda spa, reminiscent of a temple, with Indian artefacts and waterfall pools, shaded by frangipanis and hibiscus.

Tradition and modernity combined in a private paradise

Renovated in 2017, the 65 elegant villas with swimming pool discreetly hide in the vegetation, bordering each side of the lanes stretching out from the hotel’s main building to the beach. The complex is therefore easily walkable.

Interiors are warm and present a selection of ochre colours with sharp orange tones. In the rooms, Hermès wallpapers ornate the walls behind the headboards; the bathrooms all feature Hermès healthcare products. The rooms’ opulent and warm atmosphere is reinforced not only by the parquet floors, but also by the tawny-wooden furniture. The most precious woods were actually imported especially for the hotel: Jaisalmer wood from Rajasthan, rosewood from the neighbouring island of Madagascar or teak wood from Burma. The interior decoration is completed by original works of art.

The spa, whose layout recalls a traditional siheyuan, is composed of six treatment rooms surrounding a courtyard garden, a heated swimming pool, a cooling pond, a hammam and a sauna. Numberless treatments are available to the hosts, namely ayurveda cures with the possibility of attending a consultation with an ayurvedic doctor from Kerala!

Tropical nature discovery and mixed gastronomy experience

From the common infinity pool which seems to fade in the lagoon, the landscape is spectacular. Water skiing, tuba diving, pedal boats, kayaks, canoe-kayaks and windsurf boards are all available free of charge.

Hosts are also invited to discover the art of Mauritian cuisine through dedicated courses, using mainly ingredients grown in the hotel’s private organic garden, which also supplies the three on-site restaurants.

For those enjoying refined Indian cuisine, the Cilandro restaurant and its very romantic setting under tree-hung paper lanterns is the perfect spot.

Just like the Mauritian culture, Maradiva’s restaurant offer is cosmopolitan: Japanese in Teppan or Mediterranean, Mauritian and international, served in a relaxed atmosphere, at Coast2Coast. Hosts have the possibility to dine in their private villa or in tents directly on the beach to enjoy breathtaking sunsets.

The recent “Dines Around” concept gives customers an access to the three other restaurants of the partner establishment Sands Suites Resort & Spa, including the very romantic Pink PepperCorn

The location of the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa, on the Western side of the island, is renowned for its spectacular sunsets, white sand beaches and lagoons. What completes the magic of the resort is the warm and discreet welcome of its personnel and the total sense of intimacy of its villas nested in a fairy-like tropical vegetation.
